Checklist for moving out

Moving to a new home can be a busy time and important practical matters are easy to forget. We have prepared this checklist for Jyrkkälä residents to help make moving out of a rental apartment as easy as possible and avoid unnecessary costs.

Remember to terminate your rental agreement in good time, clean the apartment carefully and return all keys when you move out. Taking care of these matters also helps speed up the return of your security deposit.

We hope you enjoyed living in Jyrkkälä and wish you all the best in your new home!

Terminating your rental agreement

  • You can terminate your rental agreement by completing the online termination form. You can also print the form and return the completed copy to the Jyrkkälä office.

Pre-inspection and apartment viewings

  • After receiving your notice of termination, a representative of Kiinteistö Oy Jyrkkälänpolku will carry out a pre-inspection using a master key. Inspections take place Monday to Friday between 8-16.
  • When terminating your rental agreement, please tell us about any pets that may prevent the inspection.
  • Our apartment inspector will show the apartment to prospective tenants using a master key (AHVL 22 §). You will be notified of the viewing in advance. Apartment viewings are usually held on weekdays between 12-16.

Keys

  • Plan your move well before the keys need to be returned. Remember to consider the opening hours of waste treatment centres and the time and help available for your move.
  • When moving out, you must return all keys issued to you to the Jyrkkälä office.
  • If even one key is missing, you will be responsible for the cost of rekeying the lock.
  • Keys can be returned to the office during its opening hours. In the evening or at weekends, place the keys in a sealed envelope and leave it in the office letterbox.

Household appliances and equipment

  • Leave all instructions for household appliances and equipment on the kitchen worktop.
  • Clean the cooker and the cooker hood grease filter.
  • Defrost and switch off the fridge and freezer. Leave their doors open to prevent unpleasant smells.
  • Dishwashers and washing machines must be disconnected correctly. Their water inlet connections must be sealed with suitable brass plugs. You are responsible for any water damage caused by incorrectly disconnected appliances. Even if no water appears immediately after disconnection, the connection may begin to leak later. Insurance may not cover this type of damage. Property maintenance can disconnect the appliances free of charge on request.
  • If you are unsure which items or fittings should be left in the apartment or removed, contact the KOy Jyrkkälänpolku office.

On moving day

  • Keep the stairwells clean during the move. Do not damage or leave marks on the stairwell walls when moving your belongings.
  • Do not use the lift to transport anything that could damage it. Always follow the lift’s weight limit.
  • If the lift is damaged during your move, you will be charged for the repair.
  • Keeping the lift doors open for too long may cause a temporary malfunction.

Cleaning

  • Set aside at least one full day to clean the apartment. A well-planned move can save you money by giving you enough time to empty and clean the apartment properly. You must clean the apartment and remove all belongings and rubbish from the apartment and storage spaces.
  • If the apartment has not been cleaned or belongings have been left in the apartment or storage spaces, you will be charged separately for cleaning and removal.
  • Do not leave furniture or other large items at the housing company’s waste collection points. Large waste must be disposed of in a landfill.  The housing company’s waste collection points are only for normal household waste.
  • Remove any mirrors, shelves and other items that you have attached yourself. You do not need to fill or repair normal fixing holes. The property maintenance will repair normal fixing marks free of charge.

Final inspection and security deposit

  • The final inspection will be carried out after the apartment has been completely emptied and cleaned. An inspection report will be prepared to record the condition of the apartment.
  • You will be charged for damaged appliances, equipment or building structures when the damage is not normal wear and tear.
  • The landlord has the right to deduct outstanding payments or other tenancy-related costs from the security deposit. If no security deposit has been set, the landlord may invoice you for any outstanding costs.
  • The security deposit can be returned after the apartment has been inspected and the inspection report has been signed.

Other Things to Remember

  • Submit a change of address notification and transfer your home insurance to your new address.
  • Arrange the transfer of your telephone and internet services well in advance.
  • You are responsible for terminating the electricity contract for the apartment.
  • Contact your bank to terminate any direct payment or e-invoice agreements for the rent.
